Nevertheless, Merim, who experienced the influence of Stendhal, appreciated him, Balzac admired him, Goethe and Pushkin with pleasure read his novel “Red and Black”. And in the 20th century, Stendhal firmly took the place in the pantheon of the classics of European literature.
