Luke Ferry (born 1951), a well-known French philosopher, publicist and politician (Minister for Youth, Education and Science in 2002-2004), addresses his new book to everyone who, without practicing philosophy professionally, would like to have a performance about it , going beyond the simple listing of the names of thinkers and the names of their theories. Highlighting in the history of Western thought the four main milestones - ancient stoicism, the rationalism of the New Age, Nietzsche’s philosophy and postmodernism - Ferry shows how all of them, clarifying and developing each other"s ideas, solve the key problems of knowledge, morality and salvation for humanity. Being a brief, accessible to any reader and at the same time quite in -depth introduction into philosophy, the book is also a consistent presentation of the author’s view on the current state of thought.
"This is a very relevant book. Luke Ferry rehabilitates the issue of ancient philosophers "how to live?" As if our life depends on the answer ... The reader himself will explain his own experience and expand his horizons. B. Crawford
- this magnificent manual for beginners proves that philosophy has concentrated life.
