The textbook explores the understanding of the subject, tasks, functions, philosophy of law, the significance and role of its methodology in the cognition of law, legal reality. The place of philosophical-legal knowledge in the system of scientific legal and philosophical knowledge as a whole is defined. The processes of forming philosophical-legal concepts of Antiquity, the development of Western philosophy of law and philosophy of law in Russia are considered. The set of ideas about the content of the philosophy of law is expressed and presented in the form of ontological foundations of law, its epistemology and axiology, legal hermeneutics. The combination of these philosophical directions with the presented methodological problems is a feature of this textbook, which allows for a clear and unambiguous distinction between the specificity and content of philosophical knowledge about law from other forms and methods of studying law.
