Jean Baudrillard is a French sociologist, cultural theorist, and postmodernist philosopher, often referred to as the 'guru' or 'spiritual father' of postmodernism. Baudrillard argued that the modern era is characterized by a sense of loss of reality, replaced by simulation, where all manifestations of the surrounding world have become nothing more than 'simulacra'.
After a trip to America, Baudrillard concluded that even this country is turning into a simulacrum - the beautiful dream of the promised land across the ocean has vanished: he speaks of the decline of power, the decline of might, of the lifeless New World hanging in the airless space. However, there is a devaluation of values and a breakdown of established norms that seemed unshakable throughout world civilization.
Jean Baudrillard addresses these questions about what will happen next, whether it will be possible to stop the 'countdown of time', or if it is fatal and irreversible.
