This is the first monograph dedicated to the work of Peter Osipovich Rossi-Russian Academician, an outstanding artist of miniature portrait painting. The name of Rossi is associated with the flourishing of the Russian visual art of the first third of the XIX century. Miniature portraits of Rossi are executed with brilliant skill, differ in the sophistication of the color, the truthful transmission of the character of a person, poeticity.
Rossi created a gallery of portrait images of its contemporaries, in which humanistic ideals of the era - deep humanity, internal independence and dignity of the individual. Among them are portraits of statesmen, the outstanding heroes of the Patriotic War of 1812: N.N. Raevsky, MA Miloradovich, Prince D.V. Golitsyn, Future Decembrists M.F. Orlova, A.F. Background der Britten, as well as representatives of creative professions - sculptor I.P. Martos, architect K.I. Rossi, painter N.I. Tonchi, ballerina E.A. TV.
For the first time, the documentary material about P.O. Rossi, the catalog of his works is published, including those unknown earlier. This gave the opportunity to trace the evolution of artist"s creativity, introduce many of his work to scientific circulation and determine the place of P.O. Rossi in the history of Russian miniature painting.
The book is designed for specialists, as well as for those who are interested in the portrait story in Russia
