The book of the historian-archivist and sources of A.D. Zaitsva is dedicated to one of the most famous Muscovites in the second half of the XIX - the beginning of the 20th century P.I. Burtenyev and its equally famous magazine "Russian archive". The author was primarily interested in the attitude of P. Burtenhev to the story, the principles of selection of documents for publication, its archaeographic techniques, was traced, as they changed the views of the hero on history during the evolution of his socio-political views and how it was reflected on the content of the magazine as Materials were mined and selected for publication, as the principles and techniques were gradually developed.
