The magical Peter Pan visits the night nursery of the Darling children, Wendy, John, and Michael. He teaches them how to fly and then takes them on a journey through the sky to Never-Never Land, where they encounter wolves, mermaids, and pirates. The leader of the pirates is the sinister Captain Hook, whose hand was bitten off by a crocodile. After many adventures, the story culminates in an exciting battle between Peter, Wendy, the children, and Captain Hook and his crew. This edition also includes "Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens," which tells the story of Peter Pan, a boy who never grows up. He escapes to Kensington Gardens, where he meets fairies, thrushes, and Old Caw the crow. The fairies believe he is too human to stay after Lock-out time, so he flies to an island that separates the Gardens from the more adult Hyde Park. Peter's adventures and his eventual meeting with Mamie and the goat are charmingly illustrated by Arthur Rackham.
