Gabriele D'Annunzio (1863-1938) was a poet, writer, and playwright. A modernist, an icon of decadence, a hero of World War I, a destroyer of social norms, a classic of Italian literature, and one of the most prominent figures of the brilliant and tumultuous era at the turn of the century, he had a huge influence on his contemporaries, both those who adored him and those who categorically rejected him. Debates about his work and personality still generate lively interest among readers. At the end of the first decade of the 20th century in Italy, the story unfolds of the relationships between four characters, bound together by ties of love, kinship, hatred, emotional dependence, and material interests. Each one seeks to assert their own truth, unaware of how quickly this desire becomes fatal. The old world has exhausted itself and is fading away in splendor, giving rise to strange chimeras that are both enchanting and painful. Aviators are the new heroes of the era, superhumans, demigods. Man rapidly conquers the land, sky, and seas, inventing increasingly sophisticated and dangerous mechanisms. But, as he greedily explores his surroundings, boldly crossing new frontiers, does he know what dark secrets his own nature holds and what traps fate has in store for him? Perhaps - yes, perhaps - no.
