Andrey Bokov's book is dedicated to the little-known and informal project and intellectual activities of Soviet architects from the 1960s to the 1980s.
'Parallel architecture' was the result of the personal and group activities of architects who did not find themselves in the system of large design institutes and typical design. The content of parallel architecture consisted of visions of the future, author's responses to the challenges of the time, new images and meanings that became popular and widely accepted over the years.
The book tells the stories of the heroes of parallel architecture, their forms of activity, participation in competitions, work at the 'Senegskaya Studio' and 'Interdesign' seminars, about diploma projects that became events, about projects of the City of the Future and children's architectural studios. It talks about the views and discoveries of architects who became interested in science and theory, about those who engaged in artistic design and industrial design but never stopped feeling like architects.
