The writer Natalia Petrovna Konchalovskaya was born and grown in a very interesting family. Her father - Peter Konchalovsky - was a famous artist. From under his pen there were such pictures like "Lilac", "Portrait of Lermontov". Her grandfather is the famous painter of Vasily Surikov, the author of the famous historical canvases "Transition of Suvorov through the Alps", "conquering Siberia Ermacom", "Boyaryna Morozova".
And a children"s poet Sergey Mikhalkov, Natalia Petrovna"s husband, in his interview, often spoke that some ideas and lines of future poems would suggest his wife.
Natalia Konchalovskaya herself wrote a lot of works for adults and children. But the most of all one of her book is known - the big poem "Our Ancient Capital", addressed to children. This is the presentation of the history of Moscow from its very grounds until the XVII century. It is about that period that we least know from other literary sources. Therefore, it is not by chance that the words "Ancient Capital" are summed up in the title.
The book consists of three parts. The first part tells about the foundation of Moscow and covers the period from 1147 g to 1480 from the second part (1538-1612) the reader learns about the acts of Ivan the Terrible and about the beginning of the troubled time. The third part (1613-1671) is a victory over the Poles, the beginning of the board of the Romanian dynasty and the rebellion of Stepan Razin.
Full all three parts of the book were published in 1953, but at each reissue, the book was refined by the author, as all new archaeological data were opened. We found it expedient to accompany the book with footnotes, in which we explain the meanings of some old-headed words and indicate changes in the names of Moscow streets.
For junior and middle school
