As is known, the new generation of the Federal State Educational Standards (FGOS) completely changes the system of education for medical students. The main methodological component of the new FGOS is a competency-based approach. The model of medical education involves increasing the level of students' knowledge by shifting the focus from theory to practical training and professional disciplines. These factors change the requirements for textbooks for medical universities. The team of authors set out to create a compact textbook focusing on the practical significance of diseases of the ear, throat, and nose. The modern level of development in otolaryngology is associated with the emergence of completely new interdisciplinary directions (cochlear implantation, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, skull base surgery), so the authors tried to provide only a general overview of the material in these sections. Special attention is paid to modern methods of examination and radiological diagnostic techniques. Many sections of the textbook are dedicated to issues of emergency conditions in otolaryngology. A whole chapter is devoted to pharmacotherapy, taking into account general principles and approaches to treating the most common otolaryngological diseases. The textbook is intended for students of medical faculties of higher medical educational institutions. 2nd edition, revised and expanded.
