The book illuminates a series of tragic and turning in the fate of Russia, related to the vague time of the first two decades of the XVII century. The beginning of the book was made by events after the bloody coup of May 1606 and the murder of the legitimate sovereign Demetrius, as well as the coming to power of Vasily Shuisky. The authors revealed attempts to capture the Russian throne with impostors, show the consequences of the political collapse of statehood, the destruction of the defensive line system and the associated invasions of the Crimean Tatar, Polish-Lithuanian and Swedish troops. It is also described about the arrival of the new Russian dynasty - Romanovs, who connected the fate of Russia with the era of restoration after the Time of Troubles, with the era of the New Age.
The publication is based on archival materials raised even at the turn of the XIX - XX centuries from unexplored Catacombs and libraries of monastery and departmental archives, “open” and introduced into scientific use by the works of Count S.D.
