The book is dedicated to the fate of the Russian word, the tragic pages of our literature. It tells about writers who are destroyed or persecuted by totalitarian power.
The narrative is based on new documents and manuscripts that the author discovered and investigated by working in the archives of the KGB and the USSR Prosecutor"s Office as the organizer and head of the creative heritage Commission of the repressed writers of Russia. Among the heroes of the book are Isaac Babel, Mikhail Bulgakov, Pavel Florensky, Nikolai Klyuyev, Osip Mandelstam, Nina Gagen -Torn, Georgy Demidov, Boris Pilnyak, Maxim Gorky.
