"One: Ecstasy, Runes, and Norse Magic" by Diana Paxson is a book entirely dedicated to the central figure of the Norse pantheon - the god of words and wisdom, war and poetry, Allfather and master of runes - Odin.
In this book:
- who Odin is and why he has so many names,
- Odin's figure in popular culture: from ancient Norse epics to 'American Gods' and 'The Lord of the Rings',
- the magical powers of the Allfather and his abilities,
- meditations, rituals, and magical practices that will help you get closer to Odin.
"This is perhaps the most comprehensive study ever written about Odin, combining deep erudition, an intuitive approach, and a sense of humor to boot. Recommended for anyone interested in the figure of Odin. In other words, it is a very worthwhile book that will be useful even to 'old-timers' like me." - Freyja Asvin, author of the book 'The Rune and the Power of Women. Secrets of Northern Mysteries'
Diana Paxson is the author of over two dozen historical novels, including those based on ancient Germanic mythology, as well as the book 'Runic Art: A Guide to Using Runes in Spells, Rituals, and Divination'. Diana is the gythja (elder) of the Hrafnar clan, founded by her in 1988. She is also the elder of the 'Trot' community: from 1999 to 2002, Diana was its leader and to this day serves as the editor of the community magazine 'Idunn'.
