Terry Smith (born 1944) is an Australian theorist, critic, and curator of contemporary art, a former member of the Art & Language collective, which was at the origins of Western conceptualism. Five of his essays, collected in this book and preceded by a comprehensive introduction by the editor, were written between 1972 and 2012 and are dedicated to the nature of conceptual art and conceptualism, examined in theoretical, philosophical, ideological, geographical, and artistic aspects. Smith presents five approaches and five edges of this art in historical dynamics, looking at it both from within (as a participant in the group of conceptualists) and from outside (from the position of criticism, philosophy, other variations of conceptualism, etc.), discussing its role as an intermediary between late modernism and contemporary art. This edition was released as part of a joint project between the Masters publishing house and the Ad Marginem publishing house.
