In the very first chapter of the book, the author explains his intention: not to write a biography of the main character, but to outline the phenomenon of the character he created. Throughout his life, from the moment he realized himself as an individual, he strived to remain true to himself, to achieve his goal despite any obstacles, and to engage only in what his soul desired. The cherished dream eventually seems to come true: his interests, passions, hobbies, and amateur pursuits evolve into his favorite professional occupation. Unfortunately, this happens to the hero of this book only towards the end of his life. They say everything remains with people. But every person lives in society. And it is society that dictates its terms to us. Events, whether those that occurred long before our birth or those we encounter daily and hourly, determine our future destiny. According to the author's belief, his hero could have become a more fruitful individual if the connection of his ancestors with the foundation of our existence - the nurturing earth and the labor on it - had not been barbarically interrupted. But, alas, history does not know subjunctive moods...
