The novel "On Thin Ice" by Georgy Mikhaylovich Bryantsev is based on real events from the author's life and his colleagues from the Cheka. The book is written in the form of a diary of Andrey Trapeznikov and notes of Dmitry Bragin - two friends who worked side by side in the state security organs for over a decade. The first part of the book covers events from December 1938 to February 1940, showing the struggle of the Cheka against the German intelligence residency. The second part describes the dangerous work of our intelligence officers in the temporarily occupied territory by the Nazis, the brave fight of Soviet patriots against the fascists. The novel was adapted into a film - in 1966, a film of the same name was released in the USSR.
