Readers are offered a book by the outstanding Russian philosopher, publicist, and literary critic K.N. Leontiev (1831-1891), dedicated to a critical analysis of two main novels by L.N. Tolstoy - "War and Peace" and "Anna Karenina". The author examines the literary style of the novels, discusses the issues raised in them, draws parallels between the characters and events of the two works by Tolstoy, also referring to the works of other writers, in particular I.N. Turgenev and A.S. Pushkin, who, in his opinion, had some influence on Tolstoy's creativity.
This book was written in 1890 in the Optina Monastery, where K.N. Leontiev spent his last years and where he met L.N. Tolstoy several times.
