The novel "In the Eve of Paradise" is one of the most autobiographical books of the classic of Russian literature, the main Sovietologist of the 20th century, Alexander Zinoviev. It includes a diverse range of his personal intellectual resistance experiences - from army pranks and jokes, caricatures in wall newspapers and epigrams to the history of creating the "Yawning Heights" and interactions with representatives of Soviet dissidence. The main theme is the artistic exploration of various forms of dissent in a communist society. Zinoviev does not limit himself to depicting the activities of only "professional" fighters against ideological dictatorship. He provides a broad panorama of spiritual resistance to ideological violence, showing the roots of this phenomenon. Rumors, "anti-Soviet conversations," domestic buffoonery, anecdotes, uncensored poems, personal diaries, dreams, alternative programs and teachings, "samizdat," "tamizdat" - all of this is carefully collected and recorded by the writer.
