The book "On Beauty and Honor" is a documentary novel about the extraordinary fate of Prince Nikita Dmitrievich Lobanov-Rostovsky, a collector whose collection of theatrical-decorative painting is considered the best private collection in the world and has now returned to Russia, being its heritage and located in the St. Petersburg Museum of Theater and Music Art. A patron and prominent public figure, Nikita Dmitrievich experienced severe trials in childhood and youth, predictably destined by the Soviet authorities to the Rurikovich in the 33rd knee. A direct descendant of Yaroslav the Wise, Vladimir Monomakh, Yuri Dolgoruky, St. Vasily Rostovsky, and many other prominent statesmen of the Russian Empire, he survived repression, a poor childhood, and graduated from school in Sofia, becoming a geologist with a degree from Oxford, a financier in New York, obtaining banking qualifications at Columbia University. His life was full of unprecedented adventures. He worked and traveled in various countries, interacted with artists and actors, workers and merchants, members of royal families, aristocrats and sheikhs, communists and high-ranking officials. His keen observation, erudition, broad outlook, liveliness of perception, originality of judgments, and storytelling skills make the book interesting for a wide range of readers. Undoubtedly, it is also of interest to cultural scholars, historians studying the Russian diaspora, art historians focusing on the Silver Age.
