Dyribas in 1789 captured the fortress and settlement. After the Yask peace treaty (1791), at the proposal of A.Suvorov, it began here (1793) the construction of the fortress, and after the decree of Empress Ekaterina II (1794) - a new city. The created city in 1795 was called Odessa - a derivative (as they say) from the ancient Greek village of Odessa, once who was east on the shores of Tiligulsky Liman.
