In his novel, Ivan Goncharov (1812-1891) created an image of a Russian man that became iconic. The concept of "oblomovism" is familiar to all of us, but the hero of the novel is quite ambiguous. Despite being described as having a "golden heart" and a "pure nature," due to laziness and fear of change, he loses love, forgets about his career, yet remains quite happy. This story makes one reflect on the meaning of existence, the futility of a superficial lifestyle where there is no opportunity to stop and ask, "And why all this?"
