The writer Valentin Kataev went through three wars - the First World War, the Civil War, and the Great Patriotic War. Without finishing gymnasium, in 1915 he volunteered for active duty in the army. Later, he participated in the Second World War, where he was a war correspondent. His stories and journalistic articles dedicated to the front life, as well as photographs taken by the author, began to appear in the press. "Notes on the War" is a book of essays, travel notes, and diaries, an honest and unbiased account of the everyday life, hardships, and deprivations of wartime, about the strong spirit of the soldiers, about the brotherhood of warriors on the front line, about the thoughts and actions of a person caught between life and death. V.P. Kataev accurately and poignantly conveyed the events that unexpectedly befell the world in the 20th century and of which he had to become a participant.
