Christoph Hermann von Manstein (1711-1757), a colonel of the guards and the son of one of Peter the Great's associates, left us a unique source on the history of our country - his memoirs. In them, he recounts the events of the turbulent 18th century, the reigns of Catherine I, Peter II, Anna Ioannovna, the rule of Anna Leopoldovna, and the beginning of the reign of Elizabeth Petrovna. An eyewitness to those events, he served under Field Marshal Minich, participated in the arrest of Duke Biron, and later in life became one of the generals of Frederick the Great.
