Johann Joachim Winckelmann (1717–1768) - a German art historian who laid the foundation for art history as a scientific discipline. This edition contains complete translations of his famous works, prepared by a researcher of European and Eastern culture, a specialist in antiquity and the Enlightenment era, I. E. Babanov (1936–1994). Among them are 'Thoughts on the Imitation of Greek Painting and Sculpture', 'Notes on the Architecture of the Ancients', 'On the Ability to Perceive Beauty in Art and on Teaching This', and others.
