The author of the book Tatiana Sergeeva Smirnova was a person who knew the elder and spiritual father of the Pskov-Pechersk Monastery, Archimandrite Ioann (Krestyankin), closely. For many years, she was his assistant, cell attendant, and scribe. Brought to the monastery by Divine Providence in the distant year of 1969 and meeting Father Ioann there, she became one of his faithful spiritual children. Remaining obediently by the elder's side from 1981 until his passing in 2006, she witnessed the hidden spiritual life of her mentor. The memoirs of T.S. Smirnova, assistant, cell attendant, and scribe of Father Ioann (Krestyankin), reveal previously unknown pages of his biography and also show how Divine Providence invisibly, steadfastly, and graciously is present in our lives.
