This book is a truthful and ingenuous story about the author’s childhood and youth, which fell on difficult military and “amenic” years. There was no need to decorate the narrative with fictional events and picturesque details: life was brighter than any fiction. Having abandoned the consistent presentation of the events, the author draws separate bright pictures of the life of a signs, describes folk psychology, customs and life seen by the eyes of the boys. Written with soft humor, the book is imbued with deep knowledge of folk life and love for the native land.
