This is the first publication of the autobiographical 'Notes' of a mining engineer, gold miner, and official on special assignments under the general-governor of Eastern Siberia, Nikolai Pavlovich Anosov, who led the search for gold deposits in Eastern Siberia and discovered the richest gold placers in the Upper Amur region in 1866. This discovery marked the beginning of the rapid development of the gold industry, which became one of the key factors in the development of the Russian Far East. Compiled in 1880, the 'Notes' cover events from the second half of the 1830s to 1874. The author discusses his views on the geological foundations and methodology of searching for gold placers, events and impressions of life in Paris and St. Petersburg, work as part of geological exploration parties on the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk, in the vicinity of Irkutsk, and in the Far Eastern taiga. The text is accompanied by an original preface, comments, scientific reference apparatus, and illustrations by N.P. Anosov. The handwritten original of the 'Notes' was provided by its custodian A.V. Gavrina. Compilation: Afanasyev P.Yu.
