The confrontation between the KGB and the CIA during the Cold War has always been in the public eye, but it was most vividly manifested in the 1980s, a decade historians have dubbed the "decade of espionage." The author provides a detailed account of the CIA's activities during that period in our country, the methods and ways in which Americans recruited our compatriots, and the tactics of the CIA in organizing covert contacts with their agents. In chronological order, the author reveals the majority (both successful and unsuccessful) of KGB operations against American intelligence services in the 1970s-1990s of the last century.
A special place in the author's narrative is occupied by the operational game "Phantom" - a unique counterintelligence operation conducted by the KGB, which, according to CIA experts, was carried out at a high professional level and served as the basis for the eight-part television series "The Beginning of Homeland."
For the first time, the reader is presented with the inner world of the counterintelligence unit specializing in working with American diplomat-spies, and specific employees who laid the foundation for modern methods of developing employees of the CIA embassy residency in Moscow are named.
