The game was the basis of everything that Mayakovsky did, as expressed by B. L. Pasternak, he "played everything at once... played with life." This manifested in the famous love of the poet for gambling games (both well-known and invented by himself), and in the changing of images-masks that his lyrical hero wore. But the most important game for Mayakovsky was the game with words, reflected in numerous impromptus, gift inscriptions, answers to audience questions during performances, recorded in the poet's notebooks, as well as in the diaries and memoirs of his contemporaries. As is known, the impromptu is at the intersection of the literary everyday life and professional literature. This feature allows the genre to be a creative laboratory for the poet, in which the writer tries themes that are not typical for him. Mayakovsky's impromptus and gift inscriptions in this book are presented as an independent form of his creativity, expressing the element of play, the free manifestation of the creative spirit not only in the works of art he created, but also in life itself. The most important part of the book is Mayakovsky's "graphic impromptus," including those from his notebooks: auto-caricatures, zoomorphic self-portraits, and signatures. The book also includes Mayakovsky's brochure "How to Make Poetry" and his selected poems about poetry. The publication is prepared for the 130th anniversary of the poet's birth.
