The central part of the collection consists of articles about the works of Daniil Kharms: comparisons with the works of Alexander Blok, relationships with the poet Nikolay Klyuev, friends from the OBERIU group, circumstances leading to his arrest and death in a prison hospital.
Additionally, the book includes articles about writers of the 18th-20th centuries: the famous poet Ivan Barkov, the attempt to use Alexander Pushkin's works for propaganda purposes to prevent the censorship reform of the 1860s, Nikolay Gumilev and the circumstances leading to his death, unknown aspects of the works of Mikhail Zoshchenko, the persecution of prose writer Lev Dobyichin, which led to his mysterious disappearance in 1936, the strange fate of publications and interpretations of the rare adult novel "Viktor Vavich" by children's writer Boris Zhitkov, the works of Bulat Okudzhava, the diverse talents of Anatoly Kondratov - the last Soviet futurist, and others. The works of V.N. Sazhin are primarily based on numerous archival sources.
