This book is a new, revised, and expanded edition of the first Norwegian language textbook in Russia, first published in 2001 and already having gone through four editions. The authors of the textbook, prepared in the first edition at the Department of Scandinavian Languages of MGIMO (U) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, were guided by both the traditions of creating textbooks for foreign languages existing in Russia and the achievements of Norwegian authors of textbooks and teaching materials for foreigners learning Norwegian while residing in Norway. The textbook is primarily intended for use in educational institutions, as well as for self-study. The aim of the textbook is to develop oral communication skills in Norwegian within everyday and some cultural topics. The book includes an introductory phonetic course and a main course with a systematic presentation of lexical-grammatical material and its reinforcement through a system of communicative exercises and lesson comments. The textbook lessons contain references to the corresponding sections of the "Practical Grammar of the Norwegian Language" located at the end of the book. The textbook is aimed at a wide range of individuals who are beginning to study Norwegian for the first time and wish to learn to speak, read, and understand Norwegian written language.
