The results of theoretical and experimental studies of nonlinear effects for waves propagating in media with a periodic spatial change in characteristics are presented. For optical and microwave radiation, these environments are chains of molecules and chains of metal nanoparticles, photon crystals and sets of light guides, plasmon grilles and metamaterials, that is, artificial media formed by a periodically repeated set of sub-wave elements - "metatoms". For the waves of atomic matter - condensates Bose Einstein - related systems are the periodic lattices entrusted with light. The combination of the frequency of the structure and nonlinearity of the response leads to a variety of bright quantum and classical effects, such as a variety of nonlinear resonances, self-name, providing the waveguide radiation propagation in a linearly homogeneous medium, and localized (soliton-like) structures.
