The book traces the path of N.M. Przhevalsky from a boy fascinated by hunting in the forests of Smolensk to a scientist-researcher, traveler, general of the Russian General Staff, the first European to penetrate deep into Northern Tibet. The author tried to reveal those pages of the traveler's biography that remained "off the history books" or were previously covered in a different context. The path that Przhevalsky intended to take to become a scientist-explorer, leaving the military environment, had countless branching tracks and paths. What, then, was able to prepare the young dreamer for the fate that he turned onto the wide path leading him to the great peaks of knowledge?
