A hundred years ago, any conversation about New York style would transfer us to the other side of the Atlantic. Then this style was a mixture of European imports, buildings with the "Italian" facades and decorations of the interior, brought by loaded ships from Venice and Florence, Brussels and Paris. But in the XX century, New York from the imitator turned into a lawmaker of world fashion. Skyscrapers, chief New York brand, changing the outlines of Manhattan, made it clear that in the modern city, the architectural component should be more spectacular than natural. To huge factories with pathos facades, making them similar to the Palaisies of the industry, they began to lay down the streets overloaded and traffic.
Cosmopolitan, still typically American in his desire to break with us together and rushing in the sky, New York invented the style glamorous and new, as symbolic as a sparkling crown on the top of the Chrysleler skyscraper. New York is probably on the same path of cultural development as the European capitals in the era of their youth, when the city style remains well recognizable. If you leave here for a few months, then when you return, the horizon line will be different, grocery at the corner will turn into the art gallery (and your homeowner will increase the rent!) Spaces, decades that were the Gold Standard of New York Life Standard, is now not enough for residents of New York. We want an apartment, but it should be authentic. We are caught on the hook of the architectural detail, the artifacts of the leaving industrial past. Our second after a skyscraper, a great invention is the attic floors, loft. The industrial "mansions" of the fifty-year old ago have now become in demand in Socho, Brooklyn due to high ceilings and open planning. Now they are busy, as it always happens in New York, fashion lawmakers who came from all over the world, from Sao Paulo to Shanghai. They settled in classic pre-war prestigious apartments, whose interior is designed in white, overlooking the "Chrysler", put a wonderful pink-yellow Chinese lamp on the bedside table and turned New York in their own, very stylish house
