The collection 'New Music' (Le nuove musiche) by the Italian musician Giulio Caccini first saw the light in 1602. In it, the author published madrigals, canzonets, and arias in a new homophonic style. Moreover, he provided explanations for singers and concertmasters on how to perform this music. The translation from Italian was done by the Russian musicologist of the turn of the 19th-20th centuries, K. Mazurin. In the current edition, the text has been edited, and errors in the translation have been corrected. The musical works can be performed by vocalists with piano accompaniment, as they are arranged in accordance with modern notation with the deciphering of the figured bass. In the preface, the editor describes the main trends of the Baroque era, the history of the collection's creation, and highlights the peculiarities of the translation.
Intended for students of higher and secondary specialized musical educational institutions, as well as teachers, concertmasters, and historians of musical art.
