Mary Caldor fundamentally changed the approach of modern scientists and politicians to understand the modern war and conflict. In the context of globalization, this breakthrough book showed: what we considered war (that is, the war between states in which the goal is to apply maximum violence), becomes anakronism. Instead, a new type of organized violence appears, or "New Wars", which can be described as a mixture of war, organized crime and massive violations of human rights. These wars take part in both global and local, both public and private participants.
