Vladislav Felitsianovich Khodasevich (1886-1939) was not only a prominent and original poet, but also left behind an original historical-literary and memoir legacy. In his memoirs, Khodasevich refrains from the temptation to speculate, recreate, or aesthetically distort. He writes about what he himself saw and heard, trying to meticulously reconstruct the fabric of the past. And if sometimes inaccuracies creep into the narrative, it is nothing more than a rare atypical occurrence. At the same time, the memoirist by no means refrains from generalizations, which almost always naturally arise from the fact or a series of facts. It is precisely the pursuit of documentalism that distinguishes Khodasevich's memoirs from the memoirs of some other contemporary poets. Another significant characteristic of his work is the consistency of his judgments: when speaking about the same people in different essays, he never contradicted himself. This edition includes the book "Necropolis," first published in 1939 during Vladislav Khodasevich's lifetime. The essays on V. Bryusov and A. Bely, A. Blok and N. Gumilev, M. Gorky and F. Sologub, distinguished by their accuracy, retain their enduring value.
