The book proposed to the reader contains the works of famous scientists devoted to the study of the role of natural selection in the process of evolution. The German zoologist and theorist of evolutionary doctrine August Weisman (1834-1914) defends the thesis about the omnipotence of natural selection. The English philosopher Herbert Spencer (1820-1903), objecting to him, indicates inconsistencies in his theory and the imperfection of his research method. Spencer puts forward his own theory, according to which, in addition to natural selection, other no less important factors affect the evolutionary process.
The book will be interesting to biologists, philosophers, historians of science, as well as a wide circle of readers
