About the book
7 Exciting stories about how the science that we used to consider the “engine of progress” went along the false path and caused great harm: from transfigure to Lainus Pauling with its vitamin C.
Science is also a kind of beautiful box of Pandora. We are curious to find out what she hides, so we, sometimes, release evil to the will, causing suffering and leading to death. In some cases, its results laid a slow-off bomb and, perhaps, will ultimately destroy us. Since they all go back to the beginning of the recorded story, but the effect of them is visible to this day, we can say that we have not learned a lesson with a Pandora box.
One of the key topics of this book is the history of scientists (many of whom were Nobel Prize laureates) who promoted ideas that are dangerous for humanity. Professor and Doctor of Medicine Paul Offit also touches on the pressing problem - the inability of scientific journals, the media and politicians to distinguish reasonable truth from dangerous ideas and their support for "harmful science".
