The book was written on the basis of the author’s lectures on the course "Protection of Nature", read at the Biology Faculty of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov. The central task of the work is to help everyone understand their own interest in any aspects of the subject and supply all a kind of supporting abstract, starting from which students can independently continue the deepening into the topic.
The subject, goals and objectives of nature protection as a scientific and practical discipline are discussed. Factors that determine the global nature of the environmental crisis in modern capitalism are characterized. The limits of the growth of the world economy are discussed, the exit for which in the 1980s caused the current crisis, the possibilities of environmentally sustainable development. The famous models of the "growth of Dennis and Donella Medouz are described, based on which the global economic crisis is predicted. The viability of the model, the correspondence of the trends of dynamics in the real course of events predicted in it. The birth of the term "sustainable development" related to it is described by the hopes and the reasons why they remained empty, as well as the principles of modeling and the structure of the model.
The publication gives an idea of the current level of knowledge on nature protection, shows wide possibilities, complexity, beauty and intellectual attractiveness of fundamental studies in the field of ecology, talks about the works of the Front region of science on this issue. The book shows that the field of nature protection is an attractive field for work and research, taking into account not only professional specialization, but also the social interests of students and, thus, not only gives the necessary knowledge, but also helps the formation of a careful attitude to nature and environmental environmental culture in general
