Antarctica is huge, cold and mysterious. This frozen continent is full of incredible stories. We are just starting to solve the secrets frozen in his ancient ice or buried under his huge mountains. Here you can discover an incredible wild nature, impressive landscapes and scientific achievements of scientists and researchers.
We will join the author on a journey through Antarctica, get acquainted with people and animals and find out how this continent changes and what this means for our planet as a whole. We will meet here imperial penguins, killer whales and sea elephants. We will prepare for the cold and, together with courageous polar explorers, we will explore one of the most severe landscapes on the ground. We will learn how scientists survive here today and what exactly they do in order to understand the history and future of our planet: from studying climate change to studying ice cores for almost a million years.
The author created this book based on numerous interviews with scientists, scientific articles and his own personal experience on a melting continent, and the artist bloomed it with bright and expressive illustrations.

Peter Volcit, Scientific editor of the book:
The book was written by a writer who personally visited the Antarctic station. Therefore, here you will find not only encyclopedic information, but also personal experiences, impressions, stories of real polar explorers. On the pages of the book there are live voices of scientists and engineers who will share their latest discoveries, talk about the research that are conducted in the Antarctic, how to prevent this severe mainland from killing you (and he will try), and how not to harm him himself - after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all, after all. Antarctica is actually very fragile and vulnerable. You will learn how to read the story recorded in air bubbles, when dinosaurs wandered along Antarctica, why Antarctica froze and whether it can re -thaw, how the nonsense differs from Nilas, what glaciers lead on twitter, why the modern polaries of the sailboats, like clouds, create clouds And they cause rain, what “bears" and“ forest ”are in Antarctica, who“ burns ”carbon dioxide in the ocean, like penguins and sea elephants help ... mosses and ticks and a lot of many!
The book is written in a living language and is perfectly illustrated.

Alexandra Shibalina, translator
I with great joy took up the translation when I saw the theme of the book - Antarctica. The very original name contains the words "melting continent", which, even before reading, made me think about the future and ask many questions. How quickly Antarctica melts? What awaits our planet? Can we do something to prevent a catastrophe?

In the book, Karen Romano Young South continent is described from all sides, so it was very interesting to translate it on the one hand, on the other, it is not easy. The closest to me were the chapters about Flora and Fauna of Antarctica, so their translation did not cause great difficulties. And especially not easy for my humanitarian mind were moments associated with geology, physics and technology. I had to read a lot of Russian -speaking scientific articles on these topics to understand the nuances.

The first -person story and the emotions that the author shares with us help to plunge into an amazing world and see your own life from a new angle. Thanks to this book, I learned a lot not only about the history of Antarctica, but also the land as a whole, about how much a person took part in it and how each of us affects the environment today.
