Alexander Mezhirov is one of the most significant Soviet poets, rightfully belonging to the top tier of domestic wordsmiths. A front-line soldier and skilled lyricist, he is the attentive and sensitive author of famous poems such as "Artillery Strikes Its Own," "Ladoga Ice," "Ballad of the Returned Name," and many others. His poetry is an example of high human dignity, a testament to how an independent and strong poet's voice can respond to the most complex challenges of the time. A book of selected poems was prepared by Mikhail Sinelnikov, a poet and literary critic, who was a close friend of Alexander Mezhirov.
