The novel "Nana" is one of the best works of the French writer Emile Zola, whose creativity became the basis for a new stage in the development of realism. The social reality, the exposure of public vices, which began in the epic "Les Rougon-Macquart", continued in the story of the Parisian courtesan Nana, at whose feet all of Paris lay. The image of the main character became a symbol of the Second Empire in France in the second half of the 19th century: outwardly glamorous, but morally corrupt and depraved.
