Myths of space. Landscape in the Russian historical picture of the second half of the XIX - early XX centuries

The monograph examines the landscape as a component of the Russian historical picture of the 1860-1910s. In addition, samples of landscape painting are considered, which contain the problems characteristic of the historical genre. The works on the topic of Russian national, ancient and sacred (biblical) history are analyzed, as well as some samples that can be interpreted as a historical picture for a modern plot. The author of the monograph on the material of landscape images reconstructs the concepts of history and nature underlying the studied works and are partly determined by the era of their creation, partly by the individual creative handwriting of individual masters of painting.
