"The Mysterious Bride" is the second book in a new detective series by Yulia Yakovleva, set shortly after the 1812 war. The author combines the chosen era with the atmosphere of a modern "cool" detective: Petersburg hussar Murin, who unwittingly becomes a detective, uncovers a crime that looks modern - and at the same time, possible in any era. By the spring of 1813, the war is already over. Murin returns to his Ensk estate to find it destroyed and burned. The provincial society is stirred by news - a wealthy landowner, Yukhnova, died under strange circumstances. Delving deeper into the life of Ensk society, Murin decides to investigate the case and keep an eye on the family of the deceased landowner. Each of the relatives has a motive. But the most suspicious of all is the widow of the eldest son, who died at Borodino, Elena Karlovna. Is she really who she claims to be? The war has mixed everything and everyone up, but Murin is convinced: he is facing another crime.
