The book is dedicated to a new disease known as COVID-19. The authors have the priority (at least in Russia) in describing acute coronavirus myocarditis with the detection of viral RNA from myocardial tissue, based on the analysis of autopsy material. The initial chapters contain a literature review on the pathogenesis of heart involvement in the new coronavirus infection, as well as the description of the first and subsequent cases of myocarditis in COVID-19 in foreign publications with a detailed presentation of their own research on the morphology and manifestations of this myocarditis. A separate chapter is devoted to immune, inflammatory, and autoimmune reactions. Despite the large number of publications on post-COVID syndrome, there is almost no analysis of post-COVID myocarditis cases in the literature, although it represents a significant proportion of modern myocarditis cases. This requires the development of special treatment approaches, which are also reflected in the monograph. Finally, separate discussions were required on the issues of the association of post-COVID myocarditis with other myocardial diseases (primary cardiomyopathies), its possible role in progression and even induction of amyloidosis, the management of patients with non-COVID myocarditis considering the immunosuppressive therapy they receive, as well as cases of myocarditis caused by vaccination with coronavirus vaccines or developing after vaccination in individuals who had previously had COVID-19. All chapters of the monograph are based on their own clinical material, supplemented by post-mortem morphological examination of the myocardium (endomyocardial biopsy). For practicing physicians - cardiologists, therapists, pathologists, as well as residents and postgraduates in the relevant field.
