Apikuni - The Far White Robe - this is the name given by the Blackfeet Indians to the writer James Willard Schultz (1859-1947), who lived among them for a long time, traded with them, studied their history, beliefs, and customs, and was married to a girl from the Piegan tribe. Schultz's books open a window for readers into the world of the Native Americans of the Old West, a world of hunters, warriors, travelers, shamans, the world of pristine nature - the world of Apikuni. One of J.W. Schultz's best works is rightfully considered his autobiographical book, known to Russian readers as 'My Life Among the Indians'. In its pages, the author recounts not only the memorable days of his youth but also shares stories known to him from the words of his Indian friends and white pioneers of Montana, vividly describing the colorful life and customs of the Wild West. He writes about the life he led "like an Indian": that's exactly how 'My Indian Life', the precise title of his book, sounds. In this new edition, significant fragments of the text omitted in previous publications have been restored, many household and ethnographic details have been clarified. The book is supplemented with modern comments and documentary appendices, and in addition, it includes a complete series of classic illustrations by renowned artists F. Weygold, D. Miller, and L.M. Goldberg.
