For the first time, the complete memoirs of Professor of Russian language and literature at Vilnius University, Ivan Nikolaevich Loboyko, shed light on little-known pages of Russian Empire history: the establishment and early years of existence of Kharkov University, the activities of the Free Society of Lovers of National Literature in St. Petersburg, the works of N.P. Rumyantsev and members of the Rumyantsev circle in collecting and publishing historical documents and monuments of Slavic literature, the defeat of Vilnius University by N.N. Novosiltsev, and so on. The author vividly characterizes well-known writers and scholars such as N.I. Grech, A.A. Perovsky, F.V. Bulgarin, A.F. Voyekov, Adam Mickiewicz, I.M. Snegirev, Metropolitan Evgeny (Bolkhovitinov), I. Leliavell, and others.
