The book contains memories of Academician Igor Ivanovich Orlova (1865-1944) - one of the largest Russian chemists - universals of the first half of the twentieth century. A common feature of his work was a combination of fundamental research with the creation of new technologies, which themselves and his students were communicated to industrial production. So in 1908 the book Orlova "formaldehyde, its extraction, properties and use, and in the next 1909th, the first formalin factory was already built on his project. The ideas set forth in the book served as theoretical basis for further work on the industrial synthesis of the first plastics and phenol formaldehyde resins.
